A Season of Strength & Surrender

GLB Church August Newsletter!

Life can often feel like open water—beautiful, yet unpredictable. In seasons of change, struggle, or growth, we need something sure to hold onto. This month, we’re leaning into what it means to be anchored in hope—not in circumstances, but in the unshakeable promises of God.

To be “anchored” means to be held firmly in place. And hope, in a biblical sense, isn’t wishful thinking—it’s confident expectation based on the character and Word of God. When the winds of life blow, our anchor in Christ keeps us grounded, steady, and secure.

This month is an invitation to examine where your hope truly lies. Are you anchored in Christ, or drifting with the currents of culture, comfort, or control? Let’s journey together toward a more rooted faith.

The De Anda Family

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”- Psalm 118:1

God is good. God’s love endures forever. We have so much to be thankful for. God is doing some great work in our next generation ministries. Through intentional spiritual leadership training times for the campus ministry; Teen and Youth Camps prompting many of our high school students wanting to learn more about God and grow in a relationship with God; college students graduating and going into the Young Professional (YoPro) Singles Ministry and cultivating a compelling community with others; the pre-teens and Junior High Teens combining for Bible class on Sundays and other events… God is moving and working to inspire young men and women to seek God and find God. Thank you, GLB Church, for investing and believing in the next generation!

God is teaching us, through our Open Hands Sundays, how to listen for Him through others’ stories and also how to see and experience God through a shared and common table at our monthly picnics. Thank you for engaging and participating in our picnics. Prayerfully, we are developing the ability to pay attention and find God in ordinary activities. God is good, his love endures forever.

As we enter into August, we will have three Sundays of not gathering together at McBride High School. August 3rd we will be worshipping God with close to 5,000 believers from all around the LA Church and many college students from around the U.S. at the Anaheim Convention Center. August 10 and 17, we are gathering in homes, backyards, parks, beaches, in smaller group settings for communion, prayer, breaking bread, and fellowship. This is a time of the year where we are intentional in taking a break for our Sunday gathering volunteers. It is good to rest. It is also an intentional time to invest in table fellowship and meeting for communion in homes and smaller groups just like our brothers and sisters did in the first century. Let’s not miss out on this opportunity to see God through our smaller home group worship gatherings. Engage at the table. Practice hospitality. Encourage one another. Pray together. Be vulnerable with each other. Share a meal. Share stories. Laugh. Cry. Bear with one another in love. Reconcile. Forgive. And pay attention to God’s moving as we worship Him around tables for those two Sundays.

We will gather back at McBride High School on August 24th and pray together for a great school year for our children’s ministries, pre-teen and teen ministries and campus ministry. God is good. His love endures forever. Let us pay attention and be formed more and more into God’s kingdom people. Have a great August!

We Serve Oportunities

Spreading Hope, One Basket at a Time!

Cristian Outreach in Action

This month, we’re partnering with Christian Outreach in Action (COA) in Long Beach — a powerful ministry that meets real needs with real love. They serve meals daily, offer clothing and hygiene items, and provide support for individuals and families facing homelessness or hardship.

How you can help:

  • Donate Items: Bring hygiene kits, canned goods, or gently used clothes to the lobby drop-off bin.

  • Serve with Us: Sign up to make lunches on the second Saturday of the month. Please call Erica Burch 562-787-4626  for more info or organize with your group and sign up here.

  • Pray: Lift up this ministry and the people they serve in your daily prayers.

COA gives us an opportunity to live out the love of Christ in our city. Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus together.

A vital piece of the relationship

August Highlights

August has been a vibrant month for GLB Church! Here are some of the key highlights:

  1. House Church Sundays: We kicked off the month (3 weeks) with several house church gatherings, bringing our community closer through more intimate worship and discussion. Thank you to all the hosts and participants who made these gatherings special.

  2. Youth Ministry Success: Our Youth Ministry’s energy continues to shine as they embark on this school year. We can’t wait to see how God will use this generation of young believers!

  3. Back-to-School Prayers: This month, we rallied together to pray for students, teachers, and families as they transition back to school. Let’s continue lifting up the entire academic community in our prayers as they face new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Dwell well, my friend

Scripture of the Month: Hebrews 6:19 (NIV)

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.”

In context, the author of Hebrews is encouraging believers not to waver in their faith. The imagery here is powerful—hope in God is described as an anchor, something both firm and secure, not superficial or shallow. This hope isn’t based on emotion or outcome—it’s rooted in the person of Jesus, who has gone before us, even into the most sacred and hidden places of God’s presence.

When we feel like we’re drifting in life, this verse calls us back to that inner sanctuary—where Jesus is, inviting us to remain grounded in Him.

Reflection Questions:

  • What has been anchoring your soul lately—faith or fear?
  • How can you deepen your trust in God’s promises this month?

  • What “storms” do you need to invite Jesus into?
