GLB Church August 2026 Newsletter!
There’s a lot happening at GLB this month, and we’re excited to step into a new season together. August gives us an opportunity to reconnect, create space for what matters, and look ahead to all that God is doing in and through our church community. As summer begins to wind down, we’re reminded that church is more than a Sunday gathering—it’s a family we get to do life with, grow alongside, and serve together.
From upcoming events and ministry opportunities to moments of connection and community, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Take a few minutes to see what’s happening at GLB this month, mark your calendar, and find a way to be part of what’s ahead. We can’t wait to see you!

Dear GLB Church Family!
”Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
– Acts 2:46-47
The early church experienced the favor of God and participated in the life of God as they continued to meet together at the “temple courts” and “in their homes.” This was the fruit of the verses before where the account in Acts tells us that they ‘devoted themselves’ to different practices, a way of life in community, that formed them into a people aware of and attentive to the movement of the Spirit.
As a church community in GLB Church, we are striving to be formed by communal practices of prayer, breaking bread, fellowship and apostles’ teaching. Our hope is to become a people who are aware of the Spirit’s presence and are able to discern the Spirit as a community of believers, “praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.” In the month of August, we are spending some intentional time in smaller Sunday gatherings and not meeting all together in our regular location at McBride High School in Long Beach. We are taking the first three Sundays to meet in homes and parks and beaches by family group or life stage ministries. The hope in this is to be intentional about the circle we are investing in as we practice the ‘one-another’ Scriptures. It’s hard to do so in a Sunday gathering of over 200 people. But when we meet in smaller gatherings, we are able to commune with each other and spend more time eating together, laughing together, praying together, wrestling with God’s Word together, in the context of a smaller circle.
The other reason we do this intentionally is to give our amazing volunteer team a time of rest in preparation for the fall semester season and as a ‘thank you’ for all the ways they serve. God has blessed the GLB Church with an amazing volunteer team that set up our audio/visual equipment every week, serve in coordinating our Kids Kingdom program, organize coffee and refreshments and ushering on Sundays as well as our parking lot team, security team, count team, GEM ministry, etc. THANK YOU for your service and your hearts to make our Sunday gatherings special! On a side note, as we enter the fall season of the year, the invitation is there for you to serve in one of these Sunday teams… please consider it and ask one of our deacons or Elders how you can serve.
As we invest in our communal life in family groups and life stage ministries, let’s enjoy what God has so generously given to us through Jesus. Let us be aware of the power of the Spirit who lives in us. And let us praise God, enjoy the favor of all people, and watch how God adds to our number those who are being saved. The invitation is to be prayerful, to be alert and attentive, to be generous and open handed, to proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom through our lives and our words. Don’t miss out on the opportunities God is giving us in the month of August.
We will be back at McBride High School on August 23rd. See you then!
With love,
Ruben and Marina

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
August can feel like a month of transition. Summer is winding down, routines are beginning to return, and a new season is just around the corner. In the middle of all the planning and preparing, it can be easy to rush ahead without taking time to notice where we are right now.
Psalm 90:12 invites us to live with intention. Our days are a gift from God, and wisdom comes from learning to use them well. Instead of simply moving from one season to the next, August gives us an opportunity to pause, reflect, and ask God how He wants us to spend the time He has given us.
Practicals for August
- Start with what matters
Before your calendar fills up, make space for prayer, Scripture, and time with God. - Take inventory
Reflect on the past few months. What has God been teaching you? Where have you seen Him move? What needs your attention? - Be intentional with people
Reach out to someone you haven’t connected with lately. A simple conversation, meal, or invitation can make a meaningful difference. - Prepare with purpose
As routines and responsibilities pick back up, ask God to help you establish rhythms that keep you grounded rather than overwhelmed. - Make today count
Don’t wait for the “right” season to do something meaningful. Look for the opportunities God has placed in front of you today.
As August unfolds, let it be more than a transition between seasons. Take time to be present, seek God’s wisdom, and be intentional with the days He has given you. We don’t have to know everything that’s ahead to faithfully step into what God has placed before us.
