GLB Church June 2026 Newsletter!
June is here, bringing longer days, new adventures, and plenty of opportunities to gather as a church family. As many of us settle into summer rhythms, it’s a great time to stay rooted in what matters most: our relationship with Jesus and our connection with one another. God continues to work in powerful ways through our church, and we’re excited for all that’s ahead this month. Take a few minutes to explore what’s coming up at GLB and find ways to grow, serve, and stay connected along the way.

Dear GLB Church Family!
”But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
– ACTS 1:8
At our prayer meeting in May, we used this verse to guide our thoughts and our intentional and communal prayer time. There are so many needs and so many things to pray about in our own lives and sometimes we can easily neglect the mission that God is on and the witnesses of the gospel of the kingdom that we are called to be. So, we spent time praying about God’s mission in the world- to be a blessing to the nations, to permeate the creation with God’s love and peace and joy and beauty, to show the world around us what it looks like when God is in charge. The church falls short in many ways but the church is still God’s plan to show creation what God’s reign and God’s kingdom looks like.
Our first part of prayer was focused on a time to be silent before God and reflect on God’s faithfulness in our lives. It is easy to focus on all the problems and health needs in our families or chaos in our world or grief in our lives. And this is good and healthy. At the same time, though, we need intentional times in our prayer where we are paying attention to God’s kindness and faithfulness to us over the years. Despite circumstances or shortcomings we have experienced, God has been and continues to be faithful to His people. We spent time reflecting on our stories- the person or people or circumstances God used to get our attention and begin following Jesus, the years of spiritual warfare and experiencing God’s grace over and over. We all have a story. And God has entered our stories to show us His way.
Our second part of prayer was focused on praying for our ‘Jerusalem’, as the Scripture in Acts 1:8 says. Our ‘Jerusalem’ are the relationships around us, our neighbors, coworkers, family members- individuals that we have regular interaction with. We reflected on someone or a group of individuals that we brought before God in prayer by name. This was a powerful time to listen to each other as we prayed and realize we have so many people on our hearts and a time to reflect on how God could use our stories to shine His light in these relationships and interactions.
The third part of prayer was praying for our ‘Judea and Samaria.’ Our city of Long Beach and the surrounding cities as well, groups or cultures different from us, crossing boundaries, marginalized communities, younger generations, older generations, unreached spaces around our surrounding communities, etc. What a great time and opportunity to pray for our city and pray for creative ways to connect with more people in our cities.
Lastly, the ‘ends of the earth.’ God’s heart has always been for the nations and we get to participate in God’s global mission, especially in June. This month is our annual Missions Offering month where we sacrifice a bit extra financially to support churches in Middle East, Mexico and Central America, Baltic/Nordic countries, and our local Spanish speaking ministries. Our faith goal is to raise over $80K for foreign missions. We prayed for these areas at our prayer meeting in May- what an amazing time!
I want to encourage us to try this prayer outline sometime in June. As we close out our Practicing the Way series, let us remember God’s heart for the nations and God’s mission in the world and that we are part of that. Let’s pray for compassion, for boldness, for faith, for awareness, for opportunities to be the ‘light of the world’ and ‘salt of the earth’ that Jesus calls us to be. As the school year comes to an end and we enter into summer months, let us not forget who we are called to be and what we are called to do- be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what he did. Have a great June!
With love,
Ruben and Marina.

Get Involved!
Church isn’t meant to be something we attend—it’s something we belong to. Getting involved is one of the best ways to build community and grow spiritually. Whether it’s joining a team, a group, or simply staying after service to connect, there’s a place for you at GLB Church.

Christian Outreach in Action
This month, we’re partnering with Christian Outreach in Action (COA) in Long Beach — a powerful ministry that meets real needs with real love. They serve meals daily, offer clothing and hygiene items, and provide support for individuals and families facing homelessness or hardship.
How you can help:
-
Serve with Us: Sign up to make lunches on the second Saturday of the month. Please call Erica Burch 562-787-4626 for more info or organize with your group and sign up here.

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
June often brings a change of pace. School is out, vacations are planned, and our routines can start to look a little different. In the middle of all that movement, this verse reminds us to stay rooted. A tree doesn’t stay healthy because of what’s happening above ground. It stays healthy because of what’s happening beneath the surface.
The same is true for us. A busy season doesn’t have to pull us away from God. In fact, it can be an opportunity to deepen our faith, strengthen our foundation, and practice gratitude for all He’s doing in our lives.
Practicals for June
- Stay rooted in your rhythms
Even if your schedule changes, protect time for prayer, Scripture, and quiet moments with God. - Practice gratitude daily
Take a moment each day to thank God for something specific. Small acts of gratitude can shift your perspective. - Be present with people
Summer creates opportunities to connect. Put down distractions and invest in meaningful conversations. - Invite someone in
Share a meal, invite a friend to church, or simply make space for someone who may need community.
If we stay rooted in Christ, June doesn’t have to be just another busy month. It can be a season of growth, gratitude, and deeper connection with God and one another.
